Today is THE day. It is the last day that Dudley will be home late. Last night he came home at midnight, and no, I didn't hear him come home. I was out.
On another note, I went to Target today on my break to walk around, and I bought some books. I am inspired to read more. I am currently finishing up the last twilight book, and then I have 3 new ones to choose from. I got A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, The Shack, and Marshmallows for Breakfast. I had heard of the first two of course, but then I saw Marshmallows for Breakfast, and the title (and cover, I won't deny it) caught my eye. I read the back, as I normally do to see if it sounds like something I would like, and I just had to try it. I haven't always been the best about reading, but this is my time. When I find the right book, I love reading. Hopefully marshmallows will be the right pick.
It is official. This thursday, Dudley will be DONE working until 11. He will be back to getting off at regular working hours. Thank goodness. Tonight I had enough time to go to the grocery store, unload, make some edamame, watch Sex and the City the movie, and catch up on some thank you notes. After all that, it was still early.
I now know how it feels to be an accountant widow. It has been a tough 2 months, but we made it and it went by quicker than we expected! Now if we could go back to this beautiful place...
I can't wait to be a normal newlywed again. Thank you KPMG for giving me my husband back, but I'm glad I could loan him to you for a couple of months.
So yes, I am tardy with this post, but I will say that the first valentine's day married was not much different than the last 5 valentine's days that I have had with Dudley. Now that he is a public accountant, he will forever be busy (working 8am-10pm everyday minus sundays) during Valentine's Day. Thus, we have decided that we will not really "celebrate" this day that only exists because of hallmark and consumers. Why should this be a special day for me to show Dudley that I love him? I love him everyday and show him that everyday, not just on February 14th.
Anyway, yes, we did get each other a card, I made mine at Stacey's awesome craft day. I wish I had taken a picture of it to show.
But, I did make these cute little treats for friends and family. Leslie found them, and it was fun to make them. I heard they were tasty.
So, on the way to work this morning, I was in the right lane waiting to turn right onto Germantown Pkwy from Wolf River. They have built a new Taco Bell next door to that gas station on the corner, and I always think how nice that building is for a Taco Bell. Anyway, this has nothing to do with what my post.
So... There was a white minivan maybe 2 yards in front of me. There was an older man trying to exit the gas station on the corner, but the van didn't want to let him out. Yes, that's rude, but sometimes people are running late and don't let people out, you know you have done it before, too. So this man pulls out and is about to SLAM into the minivan, but the minivan keeps on driving, and the man keeps on pulling up and braking. He then begins to yell (I think I saw veins popping out of his forehead) and say many curse words and I can read his lips and everything he said. He then ZOOMS out of the parking lot hoping everyone else stops for him, and then goes all the way across traffic into the Perkins parking lot. I was so amazed at how angry this man was. I feel bad for him that he had such terrible road rage at 7:50 in the morning. Personally, I use my morning drive as a chill time (probably because I'm still asleep).
He looked WAY more angry than this man here, I'm telling you, envision veins in the forehead and a bunch of yelling in the car and hand motions like that.
I drove the rest of the way to work feeling really bad for this man. I hope that he has someone that loves him, especially this weekend.
So yes, I do leave my house at 7:25ish to get to work by 8. I usually dread this drive, but lately I have really enjoyed it because I get to listen to the morning radio shows. With Sirius in my car for the last 5 years, I haven't listened to the radio as much, but there is honestly nothing as great as listening to radio shows in the morning.
During Christmas time, I stuck with 104.5 to hear all the tunes, but now I can't tell you how much I am loving that Memphis has an oldies station back. It has been too long. We have gone through many from oldies 98, to 95.7. I now love 94.1 KQK in the mornings not only for the tunes, but Steve and Karen are the voices of the show. I grew up on 99.7 on the way to school with my dad, and it was always Ron, Steve, and Karen.
So the point of this post is... This morning I realized that I am musically well rounded. I love listening to oldies music. This morning I could sing along to every song I heard, which was a lot for a morning talk show. "We built this city," "Love is a battlefield," "Devil with the Blue Dress," all came on this morning, and I was driving thinking about how I could listen to most every song that came on the station. I give credit to my parents for my love of oldies music. They always played it when we were growing, and when I was in dance my teacher always seemed to use oldies songs. At the time, of course, I thought it was nerdy listening to oldies, but now I appreciate it. I am more well-rounded when it comes to music options.
But then there is my sweet husband who is in love, and I mean in love, with ALL country music. When we met, of course, this didn't come out as much, but over the years I have had to learn how to tolerate it. Yes, all country songs have the same message and sound the same, but he truly feels that it is musically genius. He never thinks one song sounds like the other. Anyway, the point here is that I can also tolerate country music and there is an occasional song (yes I know, weird) that I actually like. Eeek!
So going along with all oldies, all Beatles, 70's, country, I have learned to love other music like Feist, Patty Griffin, Kate Walsh, Ray LaMontagne, Regina Spektor, Amos Lee, etc, etc... the list goes on... Shout out to Laura who has supplied me with even more tunes that I am in love with recently, such as, The Avett Brothers, Old Crow Medicine Show, The Weepies, and it continues.. Recently Jesse has informed me of (and also I've heard them on Pandora) Welcome Wagon, Bon Iver, and Fleet Foxes, and I'm loving it.
All in all, I end up loving the drive to work because I get to enjoy real classics, and an occasional game or trivia question. Here is the one from today...
Who was the mythological character who was abducted by Paris and had the face that launched 1000 ships?
Ok, so I am officially going to get back to the blogging world. My first go round was a bust and you can tell because the last time I posted was in '06. I tried to log on to that blog, and it wouldn't let me update or post again. Whoops!
So today, I was having the hardest time waking up when I got to work, and the lights hadn't been turned on in the office. It was so dark and peaceful. I really needed some coffee, but I can't drink the coffee at work anymore. It tastes like tar. It is never hot and it has a flavor that makes me want to .... you fill in the blank.
Does anyone have suggestions about how to enhance work coffee and make it not so tar-like? Is there even a way?
